The full interview about poverty with a psychologist used in our mini-documentary...
The mini-documentary was made by us; three local Coloradan students in attempt to find a cause they wanted to support. Reading Les Miserables, it seemed appropriate to choose poverty as a major focus -- but instead of choosing to donate or volunteer, what was chosen was to educate people around the world in the best way we can. YouTube. We ended up learning a lot by this video, and we feel that education is the solution to this awful problem. Education would fix so many of the problems, and that was the intention of this video; along with getting rid of labels (another theme in Les Miserables). We're hoping this video will go viral to help educate those around the world about ways they can help, and where the problem really is. Education is the solution -- and our generation will soon be in charge of what will happen. Might as well start early, right?
Thank you to everyone who has participated in this video, as well as even watched it: I hope that you have learned something and will now act upon it.
Helping your community is a great start. For us, we made a video, but we also became acutely aware of the situation in our own community. Visiting the local community center (where they hand out food stamps, medicare, medicaid, etc) was an awakening, realizing that there are so many people in poverty who aren't just the typical stereotype. For us, we didn't need to volunteer to help (at least in our opinion). Becoming aware has made us want to help the problem, starting with this video, and soon ending with plenty of volunteering and donations.
