Another clip from a Dudley Savage concert at Malvern. In this one he reminisces about his boss, Harold Ramsay and his teacher, Sidney Torch. He then plays "Her name is Mary" and "Rodeo March" both by Harold Ramsay, before learning the benefits of radio microphones.
"Her name is Mary" was, I believe, the last tune Dudley ever played on the organ. He stayed with my wife and I, and played it on my Conn organ - in memory of his dear wife, Doreen Mary, who passed away in 2003.

  • a lovely organist and one of my late fathers favourite organists--did he play at the abc ipswich.?

  • Between 1936 and 1938 Dudley toured the country as the "Wonder Cornish Boy Organist" doing a week at each of almost every cinema in the country. Almost certainly that would have included Ipswich though I can't be sure. Someone else will probably know. I'll make some enquiries.

  • @christhompsonorganis - what happened to this organ? I've tried doing some research but, other than reference to the glass surround being sold, I've found nothing.

  • Dudley was a great personal friend to me and helped me no end with my playing. I owe him so much and I will always remember him with great affection. MY HERO and one of the finest organists in the world. Thank You Dudley for bring us so much pleasure over the years. God Bless You, I miss you so much, Ben.

  • I'm so pleased to have discovered this. It brings back memories of several of Dudley Savage's concerts which I attended. I have a letter and photo which he sent me in 1979 and I treasure them. He will be sadly missed.

  • This brings back memories for me - the Malvern Compton was the very first theatre organ I played. I was at this very concert and in the interval Dudley told me what a melotone was - though aged 12 I didnt understand at the time.
