Four Folk Song Upsettings, S. 4 for Mezzanine Soprano, Devious Instruments, and Piano. Edited, by not gussied up by Prof. Peter Schickele. Performed Nov. 18, 2005 by Tara Guthrie, soprano, Judy Walters, piano, and Trey Hamlin, "devious instruments." The score says that the set-up for this work should be part of the performance. The "devious instruments" include: 1. Schlagenfrappe (made from wrapping paper tubes cut to various lengths to match pitch, and one mailing tube.) 2. Ocarina (aka. sweet potato - a child's flute shaped like a small sweet potato, formerly used at birthday parties.) 3. Tuba Mirum (a clear tube filled with "wine," or grape juice in our case. The sparkling grape juice foams too much to use for this.) 4. Pastaphone (two pieces of uncooked manicotti pasta held together end to end.) I'm including this info and video so if anyone else wants to perform this, you can see how we did it.
