May 2, 2007 presentation by Carly Fiorina for the Stanford Technology Ventures Program Educators Corner in the School of Engineering at Stanford University.

Carly Fiorina, former CEO of HP (1999-2005) talks about the dynamics of change and fear in this lecture to Stanford University students offered in May, 2007. She notes that entrepreneurship is about risk-taking, and this is always associated with tackling innovation. Fiorina concludes that asserting change involves gathering enough energy and force to overcome the power of the status quo.

  • @ricodelta1 You sound like a very small, limited, frightened person.

  • nice video though...

  • nice one!

  • What an idiot bitch!

  • i wouldnt listen to some slut who single handedly screwed up HP back in the day

go back to the back alleys whore

  • There is something wrong with this woman if you watch her on TV she has a permanent smirk and her head wobbles. I think she is either drunk or totally doped up!

  • @dimegood Do you seriously want this woman in charge of the country? Please just wake up...

  • Carly Fiorina's reputation went downhill the day she rightly and courageously praised the history of the Islamic civilisation and it's contribution.

She gave the speech titled: In praise of Islamic civilization

also youtube: 1001 inventions and library of secrets

So much for freedom of speech

  • Fiorina logic (in reality, gross contradiction): give a lecture that focuses on psychological aspects of risk taking, aka overturning the status quo, in the private sector; yet chair the advisory board for an institution that's responsible for propogating American status quo abroad. Are there any nationally prominent, public office hopefuls that employ principles across the board? Thankfully, she didn't win a seat in public office..........

  • I can see why this argumentation makes sense (to her). But it is well known that conclusions drawn from wrong basic assumptions can never lead to true statements.

So here is where I do not agree: it is not true that everybody has fear.

Being afraid of change and fearing new things in general prevents us form growing (also internally) and from becoming wealthy.

Fatalistic attitudes like the conviction to depend on luck won't ever generate success because it will be blocked by fear ... :-)

  • this presentation is good because the speaker Carly has conviction in what she is talking about cause she has seen whatever she is talking about in life

  • I agree with the luck part to an extent because you can be the best business mind but be born in an African village or in Carli case have a federal judge as a dad.

  • How is that people get to where they are. She is not saying anything new or inspiring it's trite pep talk

  • @photographics Your statement doesn't make sense. Fiorina wants to pull government out of our lives. Furthermore, your associations between Fiorina and 1984 are an absurd leap and based on nothing but a want to slander. What has she said that made you think these things? Outsourcing does create jobs, just not for you, for people who eat dirt. I'd really like to know where you get the freedom/slavery link to Fiorina? Last I checked it was a fair few dems that want to ink an SS number on my ass.

  • @MillyVanillification She started off as a secretary hombre. Haha. That's funny you cite patronage, and luck, that's absurd. It's all about results. You could be the Prince of England and if you can't make a burger you can't work at McDonalds.

  • HP fined $55 million: carly CEO; plus now SEC investigation of illegally influencing Russian purchase of HP products under carly: Some call it bribery. Ethics: who needs em: millions more important.

  • You need 3 thing to be successful:

    1. luck (being born in an adequate business environment)

    2. patronage

    3. unscrupulousness

    You must not have:

    1. intelligence

    2. sense of responsibility for others

The so-called "successful" will never get tired of pointing out that their success is because of their performance. Think of Carly being born in Mexico as the daughter of a farmer owning 2 acres. And then lets talk about fear and success again.

  • She sounds like a progressive in this video.

  • @HelpfulFriend Exactly how superficial is an explanation of why people in power tend to favor and promote stagnation because it helps them to remain in power? Why do you think so many of the rich support Obama? Because high -income- taxes don't bother them as much, because they're already rich...the only people that are affected are the people trying to join them. Why are all of these megacorporations being bailed out? Because of what Fiorina stated here. Obama's "change" is to kill change.

  • I would love to hear Boxer articulate a perspective on a subject matter as heady as this.

  • At least she couldn't possibly ruin california any more than Boxer did

  • Wow. Fiorina harks back to Orwell's scenarios of economic and political doublethink in "1984"!

    Freedom = slavery

    Outsourcing = job creation

Getting fired = job qualification for higher office

  • Go Baby***********You look and talk like the NEXT President of the United States*************GO CARLY

  • Why do so many liberals regurgitate the Boxer attack Ads? Even if I were to agree with them, although I know they are not correct since HP is and has been the top PC/server maker in the world. I don't know about you, but for me it's an easy choice between picking someone who ran a state and a country into the ground (Boxer) and someone who supposedly "ran a company into the ground". Anyways, HP would not have Carly's bio on their homepage if she "destoryed" the company.

    CARLY FOR SENATE!

  • Copy of Tony Robbins

Why did HP employ her in the first place?
