At an average rate of $200 per night/per inmate, private prison operators profit over $5 billion a year. How do they do it? Like con-artists, they lure town councils and local government officials with promises of easy money and increased revenue. However, what they don't tell them is at what cost!

Littlefield, Texas found out the hard way. Private prison operators promised increased "product" (aka detained immigrants) and alleged prosperity for a town that was struggling with an economic crisis. Instead, what Littlefield got was a mega-complex private facility, an additional $10 million contractual debt, and a fleeing population.

  • "an endless supply of product". Gee, nothing wrong with that picture at all right?

Whoever came up with the idea of corporate-run prisons had to have had more than few loose screws rattling around in their brain.

  • Human beings are a "product", and an entire town is expendable.

Incarceration rates have risen exponentially since prisons became a for-profit industry. We, as citizens, have a responsibility to make every effort possible to STOP these greedy bastards while we still can!

  • These prsions also run private mental health facilities. was nonadjudicated detainee Female all male prison, I bonded out own recog. They took me back into custody, I was lead by squad of uniformed armed guards to isolat, lead on a stage n front of them, made to take off all my cloths and left to freeze all night. MH Director volun.terminated 2+ mo. later after being caught having sex with a prisoner. I have a Fed case, can not afd lawyr, They deny all of it! No one cares until it happns to them

  • That'll teach them to take a profit on the incarceration of others. Prisons should never be privatized. It's immoral: it creates a corporate goal of imprisoning more people so they make more money. Sadly, too many US governments are incapable of understanding this simple truth.

  • I'm sure Blackwater will be buying it for the detention of U.S. citizens as soon as Obama makes his play for Dictator !

  • The city baited that prison to coming with a 11 million dollar bond. Although I think it was despicable how that guy spoke, that prison is not to blame for the city's problems. Prisons don't burden cities, cities burden themselves through their dumb Keynesian economic views.

  • @kcmark3 I clearly didn't watch the video end to end--I'll admit to that. I do like you're reply, though. I guess it's ok to call people a "hick" but it's not ok to ask why somebody is speaking a language other than the majority language. I think in how I phrased the question, it was pretty clear I was just asking--I don't have an agenda. I've lived in cali all my life and I get along fine with people speaking Spanish, Mandarin and other languages. I just misunderstood the context here.

  • @KCKatheist All I can say is Ron Paul.. He's the only candidate I feel comfortable voting for.

  • @johnstephenson13 he's a pastor and it would have been obvious if you actually watched the video and there are many bilingual city officials u hick. . .

  • I hate to sound xenophobic, but why is the guy speaking spanish? He seems to be a city official...

  • Ah, the New American Slave Trade!
