This film tells the story of five days in January 2011 when the people of Egypt broke through a barrier of fear they had known for a generation and rose in revolt against their president. Anger had long been brewing in Egypt - strikes, unemployment and sectarian tension were on the rise. Small networks of activists had been agitating against Hosni Mubarak's autocratic rule for years. But it was only when another Arab country, Tunisia, rose up against its tyrant that the Egyptian activists attracted mass support. People took to the streets across Egypt demanding political freedoms, an end to state corruption and a better quality of life for the impoverished population. Egypt Burning captures those critical moments as history unfolded through interviews with Al Jazeera correspondents on the ground.

  • People praying are not the Muslim Brotherhood. Egypt's a Muslim country, and we all pary and put our heads down to God.

Over 75 million muslims here pray each prayer.. so please, don't think that people praying on the streets have anything to do with the Brotherhood.

They are only 7% of the population.

  • Brazil must do that too!!! BRAZIL ITS A DISGUISED DEMOCRACY and its very violent either! Dont think that Brazi its a wonderful country cause its not!! The most of the politics are dictators, they dont respect laws at all, they do what they want to do and fuck yourself, its just like that!

  • @ArabSudanese101 Oh I'm aware of this. But Egypt is almost 95% Muslim and the official state religion is Islam. It's fairly impossible to "leave religion out of this," especially since the oligarchy that is poised to replace Mubarak are a bunch of hardline, doctrinaire muslims who will plunge the nation int almost certain chaos. Islam is simply incompatible with the governance of a modern nation-state. Further, Islam is incompatible with the modern world.

  • @ehassen ameen!

  • @oldstock1607 not everybody is muslim in Egypt just to let you know that buddy leave religion out of this

  • @husam0tcc no fuck you :) dont try to hide it...that religion is terrorism....

  • ......wealth in off shore un taxable bank accounts will destroy us over night. The craziest part is in the end the elitist are screwing the selfes and they dont care or just dont see whats happening

  • That hatefull anti muslim shit is exactly how they want you to feel. Good job be a puppet with out knowing it. Of course they hate us just like 97% of the world does. Imoral retardation is how the convince people like you to become hired hit men (soldiers). Please people rise up and realize how we are being used so a hand full of people can live like kings. Imagration and free healthcare didnt and wont create an economical melt down, but alowing 400 people to hold more than 85% the countries....

  • @Missjuicy1616 fuck you

    really

  • The overthrow of Mubarak was just the beginning, none of the social demands of working people have been met. From the World Socialist Website: "The basic task facing the Egyptian workers is the building of a new revolutionary leadership, which aims to mobilize the working class in the struggle for power and put an end to capitalist rule. However, the struggles unfolding in Egypt cannot be successful within Egypt alone, and the lessons of Egypt are not only lessons for Egyptian workers."
