Powderkeg (Faith, 8 years old) and Billy performing at the Eastgate Elementery School Talent Show 2010.

The first song is The Sea, written by Brian Leo. We learned it from the singing of William Pint and Felicia Dale (http://www.pintndale.com/). The second number is a traditional Irish tune called The Swallowtail Jig.

One final note: Powderkeg selected the songs, dictated the accompaniment, altered lyrics and tunes as she saw fit, and scripted the introduction. In short, this show was all Powderkeg's. :-)

  • Great job -- on both the song and the tune!

  • Thank you so much for introducing us to this song!

We initially tried to do it closer to your version (with ukulele, toy piano, and vocal harmonies), but it was too much to learn in too short a time - for both of us. Maybe we'll try it again for an upcoming gig later in the year.

Powderkeg had *so much* fun learning the music and producing the act (the music selection, orchestration, jokes, dialog, and even the tempo were all hers) - and I had fun too. It made a perfect daddy-daughter project.

  • Incidentally, Powderkeg and I did this same version at the February Chantey Sing aboard the Virginia V. I hope it will come as no surprise that everyone there that night seemed to know it, and even had a full set of actions to go along with the chorus... We were tickled. :-)

  • Splendid! I usually tell my audience this is the only song I wrote that DELIBERATELY makes no sense. Pass it on!

  • We were certainly tickled to find the video on YouTube. We were searching to see if a friend had uploaded a concert video and yours popped up because you mentioned our names in the description (thanks for that).

oh yes -- one thing -- you might mention that the song was written by Brian Leo.

All the best to you both!
