Of all the Empires of modernity, the British is the greatest-indeed, the greatest since Rome-having encompassed a fourth of Earth's surface and people. Out of her womb came America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand, four of the finest, freest lands on Earth.

Out of her came Hong Kong and Singapore, where the Chinese first came to know freedom. Were it not for Britain, India wouldn't be the world's largest democracy, or South Africa that continent's most advanced nation.

When we the British arrived in Africa, we found primitive tribal societies. When we departed, we left behind railroads, railways, telephone and telegraph systems, farms, factories, fisheries, mines, trained police, and a civil service.

No European people fondly remembers the Soviet Empire. Few Asians recall the Empire of Japan except with hatred. But all over the world, as our traditions, customs, and uniforms testify, men manifest their pride that they once belonged to the empire upon whose flag the sun never set. America owes a special debt to Britain, for our laws, language and literature, and the idea of a representative government.

It was the British who were first to take up arms against slavery, who, at Trafalgar and Waterloo, were decisive in defeating the Napoleonic dictatorship and empire, who, in our finest hour, held on until Hitler was brought down. We were and forever will be the greatest empire ever to reign on this Earth! Rule Britannia!

I am an American. As an American, I remember my relatives who served His Majesty in WW1 and WW2. This is why I have chosen to Major in British Imperial History in University

As a Jew, I also think about Britain as the only safe haven for Jews throughout much of European history. Also how Britain is one of the few countries in the world where Jews are equal citizens, and have served Her Majesty's forces since the creation of the Empire. We will continue to do so.

I live in Australia and I am so proud to have the British Blue Ensign as our flag. I shall never forget that Australia was a colony of the Great British Empire and that at all times, we should stand side by side ready to take on the world. @paladinee Fartsurmonde has pretty much done what I was going to say, on top of it the Spanish Conquests were practically ethnic cleansing, the massacring of the non-Christian peoples of the Northern Parts of Latin America were brutal and in the name of spreading the Catholic faith (then enslaving the remaining converts) read your history next time. We certainly killed thousands in our Empire but the British didn't actively try to eradicate them (deal with the Native Indians for example?).
