well it was for a sort of PDA device apple made in the mid 90s for business people for on the go email and messaging and writing
the really great thing that came from this piece of history is it's handwriting recognition built in
it could sync to the computer(pc or mac) and could send faxes. this model came out in 1993 but quit making them in 1998 with the Message Pad 2100
