From Elton's 1992 set, Rare Masters.
"Here's To The Next Time" was originally released in 1968 as the B-side to Elton's very first single, "I've Been Loving You", which failed to chart. It was only available in the UK for a short period of time before being taken off the market. It has not appered on any of his albums since. But 24 years later in 1992, it appeared on his Rare Masters box set, along with "I've Been Loving You".
TRIVIA: "I've Been Loving You" was the first single released under the name "Elton John". Before then, he was a member of the band, Bluesology, under the name "Reg Dwight", Elton John's birth name.
And unlike most of his other songs, Here's To The Next Time was completely written by Elton John, both the music and lyrics.
Lyrics:
Like I said baby
If you go astray
Well then go on
Go your own sweet way
I thought you knew by now
You do just what you please
And here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
How many times
Have you gone before
And how many times
Have I forgiven you once more
Never had to wait
Like I waited for you
And here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
When you're gone
The time drags by
I wish you'd learn
Not to make me cry
To make me cry
So if you're gonna leave me
Never to come back
Break it to me gently
Or my world will crack
So be sure to let me know
That I'll never say
Here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
Here's to the next time
