Preparing to excavate an ancient city drain in Khirbet Qeiyafa (The Elah Fortress), Israel. For more info and videos, visit www.LukeChandler.wordpress.com
@shroomingnewman Yes, I believe in the accuracy of the biblical accounts. Re: Goliath's size, he certainly could have been 9'9". The Dead Sea Scrolls have an alternate reading that translates to about 6'9". Either way, he was significantly taller than the average Israelite of the time (around 5'2" or so) and the point of the story is the same. As for Nephilim, are you referring to a possible race of ancient giants? I haven't studied it, but I do know there's no genuine archaeological evidence.
@ChandlerLuke i got a question for you, if you don't mind....do you believe the battle of david and goliath actually took place and transpired the way its stated in the bible? do you believe goliath was actually a real giant? are you familiar with the nephilim?
@shroomingnewman - Good question. We identify it as a drain because it's a narrow, cut channel below the floor level that runs straight out the city gate. The site has another gate with the same plan, including a drain in the same relative position. The other drain had flat, cut stones on top to permit access (unclog drain, etc.). The gate in this video had its capstones removed/recycled in the past. Excavation yielded ancient lunch scraps - a number of small animal bones and several olive pits.
