One of my FB friends posted a link to this video - WOW. First off, LP59 did an absolutely stupendous job putting it together!! Second, and more astounding to me - despite the fact that this was one of my favorite songs growing up (and still is one of my all-time favorite recordings), I did not know til this day that it was THAT Richard Harris that made this recording! MAD props to locopedro59!

When I was a teenager I used to listen to this song over and over. I thought it was really beautiful and dramatic but when I understood the lyrics I was a bit disappointed but I know they mean something deeper something like he missed the chance or love of his life...

Richard Harris and Jimmy Webb were destiny....Glen Campbell did a wonderful job on Jimmy's music, as did the gorgeous Linda Rondstadt, but it took Richard to bring two works of art to us...."A Tramp Shining" and "The Yard Went On Forever.". There are 2 perfect love songs in the world--Terry Kirkman and the Association's "Cherish", and Richard and Jimmy's "MacArthur Park"

One of best musical composition of all times - the lyrics (whether this doesn't seem to make sense to many or not), the change in tempo, the orchestra - I just loved it! And Richard Harris seems to be just the perfect person to give life to this musical composition. Kudos to Jimmy Webb, Richard Harris and the orchestra who played the accompaniment so well.

i first heard this song in vietnam 1968...never forgot it.....what a great song...only richard harris could sing this!!!! the rock part in the muddle is mind blowing!!!!
