Many of the soldiers Kennedy wishes to support have completed their full contract, seen first-hand combat in Iraq, and then been stop-lossed - which means they were involuntarily re-enlisted without their expressed permission.
That's not fair and is a key reason why compulsion and forced re-enlistment are so unpopular today in the U.S. military.
If this is a volunteer military, why are young men and women being forced to serve beyond the contract they signed? And why in a war not sanctioned?

when you commit to something you should finish it. just like a contract.

The bill is for those who resist wars "not sanctioned by the UN."
Logically then,
Anyone who does not support this bill, supports more wars than the UN.
Those who support more wars than the UN are on very dangerous ground morally and should carefully re-examine their decisions to support those wars.

Kennedy is merely reflecting opinion polls that show that 64% of Canadians support Iraq war resisters and the fact that Canada did not go to war in Iraq and it's now a proud part of our political history. Thank you to Kennedy, Bill Siksay and all opposition members who have spoken out so consistently in support of Iraq war resisters and passed two majority motions in Parliament that have been ignored by the Harper minority.

this guy's creating a career for himself by doing the bidding of draft resisters living in canada. this is not in canada's interest. he's a shill...

Great Job Mr. Kennedy

Young soldiers evolve. Some become more hawkish, some develop coping issues, others develop anti-war sentiments and some even become pacifists. Mr. Kennedy recognizes the humanity of soldiers of conscious. His compassion is laudable.
