Between September 26 and October 17, eight young Tibetan monks and one Tibetan nun have set themselves on fire in Ngaba County, eastern Tibet. This brings the total number of known self-immolations in Tibet to nine this year. Five of them died and the fate of the other three remain unknown. The situation remains tense and posters appearing around Ngaba town and Kirti Monastery warn that if the present situation of oppression continues many more people are prepared to give up their lives in protest. Chinese military forces have enclosed Ngaba and surrounding areas, placing it under effective martial law.
China's systematic repression and tyrannical rule in Tibet — stationing officials in the monasteries, disappearing monks by the hundreds, shutting down phone lines, cutting off the internet, installing surveillance cameras and military checkpoints everywhere — have created a spiraling nation-wide crisis.
Bay Area Tibetans and supporters join a the global campaign "Enough is Enough -- Global Intervention to save Tibetan Lives" (www.StandupforTibet.org) to show Tibetans in Ngaba and across Tibet that their deep pain and suffering has not gone unnoticed by the world. Tibet is burning and Tibetans need world leaders to intervene and most immediately -- we must pressure China to withdraw its security forces from Ngaba and stop the ongoing harassment and torture of Tibetan monks at Kirti monastery.
We call on our state representatives and county leaders to take the following actions:
(1) Global pressure on China to withdraw its security forces from Ngaba and stop the ongoing harassment and torture of Tibetan monks at Kirti Monastery;
(2) World leaders to issue a coordinated international response to condemn China's repressive measures in Ngaba and across Tibet and to institute multi-lateral mechanisms to advocate for the Tibetan people.
Please join us on Wednesday, November 2. from 10 a.m. -- 6.p.m in San Francisco. Protests are taking place world-wide on this day as Hu Jintao attends the G20 Leaders' summit in Cannes, South of France. Please respond via Facebook @ http://tinyurl.com/3skquoc

This event is organized by San Francisco Team Tibet, a coalition of Bay Area Tibet organizations dedicated to Tibet's freedom.
San Francisco Regional Tibetan Youth Congress, Tibetan Association of Northern California, Committee of 100 for Tibet, Bay Area Friends of Tibet, and Students for a Free Tibet.

we petition the obama administration to:

calls upon the People's Republic of China to put an end to its repression in Tibet as demonstrated by the ongoing unrest

I am writing this letter to draw your kind attention to the tense situation in Tibet due to the Chinese authorities’ increased restriction in the wake of a series of self-immolation by Tibetans in Ngaba Tibetan region...

  • FREE TIBET 2011!

  • @ZinzomT

I don't know what you are fighting for, but here I am simply laying out the fact that your exile Tibetan community can not survive a single day without the dole out from foreign government. It is not because of your "higher noble cause" than Kashmir's, or Chinese government's more cruelty than those administrated in India Kashmir- google keywords for "kashmir unmarked graves thousands bodies" - When you fight for freedom, why you do not unite Kashmir people.

  • It is geopolitical game, it is fight for moral high ground. you are just a cheap tool, a pawn. Otherwise you can not explain why Western media bashing China in every occasion while keep eyes closed on much more heinous crime commited by their partener.

  • What's the hurry to reincarnate ? Your current "suffering" and "exile" is but your past life's bad deeds towards serfs when you gouged their eyes and chopped their limbs just because you said so without showing MERCY and LOVE towards your OWN fellow Tibetan serfs, get it ? Without abolishing Serfdom when you HAD the chance while in Tibet, then God let you claim Independence in Dharamsala and be FREE there. Lustful desires for Power & control of this world and still call yourself a Buddhist? LOL!

  • @TracyXYANG

i don't even think you know what we're fighting for.

we're fighting for our human rights. sure, we want independence but like you said, the chinese won't free us by pressuring them.

does it look like these monks are asking for money? you have no idea whats going on.

you have no idea how a tibetan feels when they hear or read such things.

please don't post such horrible comments. you may feel like I'm violating your right of speech. but I'm only voicing my opinions too.

  • Please don't be a zombie TracyXYANG

  • Anyway the universe treats every thing well equal finally, no matter Gaddafi's corpse or this monk's burned body.

  • Come on, every one know your political stunt is for the purpose of solliciting money support. To the donors in the battle of moral high ground, you are just a cheap tool to score a point against China.

For the dead, he is just a foot soldier. He is dead and his atoms are reshuffled and recycled. He must regret since that he could not see spiritual heaven as promised in his daily recited text, the only thing before he left was the burning pain...
