n the Bible, God commands man to "go forth and multiply." The three Abrahamic religions take this seriously. While secular populations around the world are static and heading for decline, religious populations -- especially fundamentalists -- are multiplying. What does the growth of religious populations mean for the future of liberal policies?
Please join the New America Foundation and political demographer Dr. Eric Kaufmann for a fascinating discussion of these demographic trends and their impacts on the long-term survival of secular liberal values.
Eric Kaufmann is professor of politics at Birkbeck College, University of London. A visiting fellow at the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard in 2008-09, he is the author of Shall the Religious Inherit the Earth (Profile 2010) and has written on religion and demography for Newsweek, Foreign Policy and Prospect, among others.
The Islamic world is seeing a rapid decline in TFR. This will lead directly to a rapid secularization over the next generation. I believe the violent nature of Islamic fundamentalism will result in an equally violent backlash against them, nullifying their high fertility. In the West, Muslims are already witnessing the beginning of a Christian and Secular backlash. They soon will shut off the immigrant tap and kill the welfare subsidies of large Muslim families.

The use of contraceptives rapidly secularized the West.Smaller families promote narcissism and narcissists reject all social pressures and especially religion. As narcissists, they will focus on their material desires including a career, sexual or drug recreation,an obsession with health, and a desire to make easy money and keep in style. This all creates a degenerative cycle that leads eventually to secularists choosing to not have any children at all.The has happened in the West and now the rest.

@halneufmille Yeah, I tried to quote that in a population genetics exam and it didn't fly.

"Every mammal on this planet instinctively develops a natural equilibrium with its surrounding environment, but you humans do not. You move to an area and you multiply, and multiply until every natural resource is consumed. The only way you can survive is to spread to another area. There is another organism on this planet that follows the same pattern. Do you know what it is? A virus. Human beings are a disease, a cancer of this planet. You are a plague" - Agent Smith
