@RetroFishman if you are in the business, you should know that their are several models out that claim much more than 900 cfm...I bought a 30-watt unit which is good for 1550 cfm, they also sell a 50 watt for 1900 cfm.

Also that roof fan is installed to close to the ridge line.  The top of the hood should be level with the top of the ridge. You should not be able to see the fan at all from the other side.

I started an attic ventilation business in 97 and havent looked back. Not sold on the solar units yet. They are in the 8 track stage with only 600-900 cfm models. I have installed thousands of GAF roof mount power attic ventilators. I point out the damage to the roof as a secondary benifit. The primary benifit is running your A/C less and keeping the house 10 thru15% cooler. Solar fans cannot accomplish this air exchange per hour without multiple units.

We are in Sacramento and it get blazing hot in the summer and we have cement tiles so which turn our house into an oven.

Ha ha ha. I put a ventilation system in Dunedin NZ and saved $526 in my first winter on heating compared to the winter before. This provides free heat in the winter and cooler air on summer nights and ventilates the attic space at the same time.

Mind you we don't get temperatures over about 48 degrees centigrade in the cavity unlike really hot climates.
