Another look at wartime deployments that few get to enjoy. Unusual sight rarely witnessed by outsiders is when a helicopter refuels in a mid-air dance with an airplane. Here a Marine nails "the basket" in a matter of seconds as if she owned it high in the skies over Afghanistan. This is no easy task. I (an Army OH-58D helicopter pilot) happened to be along for the ride. As a former Marine; I couldn't have been more awestruck and prouder. About 10 other guys took their turns that day-----each took about 10 minutes (on average) to do what she took just seconds to do. The real awe came in having to continually remind yourself that you were in a helicopter chasing this huge airplane. They did it later that night-----but I was too chicken to tag along. Why do 53s have to had their wheels extended during an AR? Doesn't this create more disruptive air flow around the airframe or cause the need for more power from the engines?

I always hated right side hookpus at night in windy conditions. Left side daylight hookups are relatively easy.
