Mayors have been talking this stuff for the past 30 years. Nothing happened yet but spending a bunch of money to study and talk about this more. Get smart, It aint gonna happen.
A town of this size has no impact on interstate commerce provided by a large railroad company such as CSX. Madisonville is actually quite fortunate that CSX has the Earlington Cutoff route along the eastern side of town that handles the majority of the traffic along this route. So instead of seeing all 30-36 daily trains along this route, the track in downtown usually only sees about 12-18 of those every 24 hours. Other towns along this busy line don't have such a luxury.
he should work on things for the kids like arcades, skateparks and i have alot of friends the play music including me we could use a place to jam with each other we get kicked off parking lots when we are skating but its the only safe spots we have
I agree with Leslie, these tracks was put in place back in the 1930's-40's,when downtown Madisonville actually had business that depended on Rail service to deliver those goods and Services.Having grown up here, I remember there was a set of tracks(spur swith track) that jutted from the Ruby Concrete block yard, out across Seminary down to the area by Browning Sprs where I believe Fuel was brought in to the gas plant there(Chevron). There are no business here that req this ML thru Madisonville.
All he is proposing is to remove the "T" or what is call a secondary track, that is going by our schools. The other track is over by the malls, if you look for them, the track is next to Wendy's and Taco Bell. I think this is a great idea, because when the track is removed you will have a walk access from the hospitial to Dairy Queen. Also, it will increase the value of land property that is setting by the path.
