I was looking for something that might point me at a candidate in the ACT elections. Alas, nothing. Even the LDP blog has gone quiet:( I'm tempted to enroll back home in NSW until the next federal election

Erhm.. Howard increased social welfare more than any other Prime Minister in our history - Labor Included. So I laugh at that concept. FTA's are also managed trade, not FREE trade..

Australians are not ready to exit than nanny and welfare state. We are pretty much taught from birth that the government is here to wipe our butts and fill the bottles with milk. We do pretty well for ourselves compared to 98% of the world but want more monetary benefits, more laptops and worst of all just plain old more government.

With the media and the government having pretty much conned the general public with this global warming bull and anti-capitalist propaganda, it just isn't going to happen. If you even utter the word 'libertarian' to the average australian, they would most likely scratch their heads.

I don't know. The events of November 24 says otherwise. Granted, I know you probably didn't like Howard but he was definetly the best we had compared to the Borg (Rudd is the sexy wolf in sheep's clothing queen Borg) who now run the nation. A lot of Howard's economic policies were definetly libertarian friendly.

The policies may have seem to be libertarian friendly but they came out socialist a lot of the time. Just this week I read two letters to the editor in the paper that were definitely written by libertarians. Hadn't seen that before. Gave me hope. I was a candidate for the LDP. We did okay for only registering a few months before the election. We beat both socialist parties. That was good enough for me.
