Every year we write a whole original album of music to go with the original stage show we do each year. This was the first time we actually did a dance in class to one of our songs though. If you want to know why we finally chose to do this now, read the section below.

Most of us at FUNKMODE started dancing because we were in love with music. We loved it so much that when we heard certain songs we could imagine elaborate pieces of choreography that we just had to get out. And that's what we did. We heard great songs and we made dances to fit those songs.

A lot has changed since those times.

Today recording "artists" charge us to not only listen to their songs but also to play or dance to their songs in public. For example, if you're playing your favorite jam at your annual family picnic without applying for and purchasing a license, the Recording Industry Association of America can not only come shut your party down but sue you for damages (even if you legally own the music).

That's a long way from why most of us fell in love with music and dancing.

What the artists (and companies that create the unreasonable contracts that rule these artists) fail to understand is that the people who listen to their music will only be restricted so far before they stop listening to and buying their music altogether. What they may not realize is that people will eventually stop going to them for music and instead start making their own.

Just like we did here, we encourage all of you to get out there and do what the people who started Hip Hop did. Hip Hop was born from people who decided to create their own art. B-boys created a new style of dance. Emcees created a new style of vocals. DJs innovated new techniques of playing music. YOU HAVE THAT POWER!

None of them had anything more than you have now, in fact many of them had much less. No one gave any of these old school pioneers permission to do what they did, they did it because they had something inside they wanted to create and express. YOU HAVE THAT POWER!

Sing your own song.

Write your own rhyme.

Make your own music.

Dance your own dance.

YOU HAVE THAT POWER!
