One of the most egregious abuses of power by a state funded academic institution in US history. Following the devastation of New Orleans by the failure of the US Army Corps of Engineers designed and maintained levee system, LSU disbanded its Hurricane Studies Program. They also fired scientist Ivor van Heerden after warning him that if he continued to report on the Corps role in the catastrophe he'd be dismissed. They acted on their threat and now the State of Louisiana has no scientific infrastructure in place to predict, model, prepare for and deal with the consequences of hurricanes.
surprise, your employer told you not to do some shit and you did it anyway, so they canned you. This is the reallity of being employed. its no different, youll find, for self important intelligentsia than it is for minimum wage fry cooks. your employer told you to stop making statements, you decided your principles were more important. dont betray that idealism by whining when they can you. there is a price to pay for idealism. if you cant handle that then shut up and take the check.

30 Days before 9-11 I sent George Bush a CD letter. The letter indicated the Skinner position was getting heartless. That was from UVA. Two months later, I was on the street. The contract issue is twofold. One wall and a court on both sides. Nothing is inherited in system. Make a name for yourself, it remembers nothing - a host or a parasite - it has a shock economy made to fit shock troops.
