Interesting view! I tend to agree with most things you said, however, I do think there is an energy force out in the universe, and that is the force that some call "God". But the minute you think you understand it is the minute you change it...:-) Does that make any sense?

Wanting to believe in a higher power/greater purpose/afterlife is a supremely easy thing to do in order to make it bearable that you will die and that your loved ones have died. I'm not sure if you've personally had someone very close to you die but compare thinking that they are gone forever with thinking they are in a "better place" and see which one your mind would choose to gain comfort. It wasn't a dying man that created God but a man who had experienced the death around him.

By mythology I mean Christ's resurrection (has to do with Sun worship and a continuation of the Osirian legend), parting the "Red" Sea, Adam and Eve, miracles et al. By political facts I mean the histories of the wars between nation states and the prominence of Jerusalem as a political power for example, stuff that is still used as propaganda to justify Israel's reformation in the modern world.

Its not just the fear of death that drives people to invent things, Its also a search for meaning. while your first notion on the "fear of death" I have a question for: If I am afraid of what will happen to me when I die and I am about to die, If i just make up some "God" as you said. How on earth is that going to give me any comfort at all? when i no its not any more true than anything that anyone else makes up???

So you assume everyone thinks like you do? I'd say the fear of death and the unknown drive people to invent Gods to explain the things that we don't know and to give hope that even if we don't know what's going on then some all powerful being somewhere does. You might be right though in that there probably are aspects of the universe that are beyond humanity's ability to perceive or comprehend. Heck, we probably aren't even a viable species for long term survival anyway.

Wow, that's a lot of mumbo jumbo there. First you personify god with a gender, call it perfect, and then give it a glaring weakness composed of the very things it supposedly created. All this is done to justify the purely secular aspect of the Judeo-Christian myth, namely crime and punishment, i.e. Go to hell if bad, so be good. You really don't see this as a purely human invention to control others behavior?
