The legendary west coast jazz saxophonist and early recording professional describes his life and times in this series of videos, given about two years before his death. Shot at Stagg Street Studio by Gary Denton.
The liner notes from that great album 'Grand Encounter' formerly tittled '2 Degrees East, 3 Degrees West' says he got a B.A. in science from U.C. Santa Barbara & then a Masters degree in Electrical Engineering from the California Institute of Technology - Cal Tech - in Pasadena. I thank god that he decided to play the tenor - for us - instead. Great tenor player. Because of him, '2 Degrees East 3 Degrees West' is one of the greatest jazz records of all time.
