  • @CrazyBB36 Watch the PBS documentary which consults Native, Canadian & British historians aside from just American.

It still has a bias toward American perspective but as a Canadian I can say I've not seen a better show on the subject.

The History channel's "1812 1st Invasion" cuts out 2 years of the war, ignores the Natives & the invasions of Canada entirely & completely misrepresents events.

  • Watching a documentary on this right now on history channel

  • @TheSlasher3095 Its debatable whether Impressment was a valid reason for war. The States that suffered from the Maritime issues were completely against the war, so much so the Hartford Convention almost tore the nation in two.

Madison couldn't claim to be fighting on their behalf. In fact the ones who wanted war were either Southern Slaveowners who wanted war as a pretext to take Spanish Florida (Patriot War 1812), or Western Expansionists in a war of extermination with Natives.

  • @TheSlasher3095 Britain Didn't recognize the south during the Civil war ether. They only went so far as to state that a divided US/CS would pose less of a threat to British interests.

  • @TheSlasher3095 Britain didn't make any such claim upon New England. Where are you getting that?
