Hermanis Brauns (1918. - 1979.) (Herman Braun) was an extraordinary pianist as a soloist, ensemble player, accompanist and a teacher. . As an accompanist he was known in Europe and Soviet Union. Often he was invited to play with foreign soloists for the P. I. Tchaikovsky International competition in Moscow.but his real passion was working with singers.
Mr. Brauns was born in St. Petersburg. His first teacher was his mother Dora Brauns, who graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory.
After graduating from the Latvian Conservatory (1938) as a student of Nikolay Dauge and Nadezhda Karklina, Mr. Brauns went to upgrade his skills under the famous French pianists Robert Casadesus and Alfred Cortot in Paris.
He also had a European touring with famous violinist Ricardo Odnoposoff.

Mr. Brauns returned to Riga in 1940 and started to work at the Jazeps Vitols Latvian State Conservatory where he was running the classes of piano, ensemble and accompanimnet..
Mr. Brauns performed and recorded large number of various concert programs with famous singers and instrumentalists.
Mr. Brauns and Latvian singers gave numerous touring recitals in Moscow, St. Petersburg and all over ex-USSR.

In the second half of 1970ties Indulis SUNA and Hermanis BRAUNS had planned to play several concert programs.
Unfortunately they played just two of them.
FIRST RECITAL on October 11th, 1977 included Sonata for violin and piano Nr. 9 in A Major Op. 47 Kreutzer by BEETHOVEN; world premiere of Scherzo by Latvian composer Arturs GRINUPS and Five Melodies Op. 35 by Sergei PROKOFIEV.
SECOND RECITAL on November 12th, 1978 included Sonata by G. F. HANDEL in D Major, Sonata Nr. 1 for violin and piano in E Flat Major Op. 11 by Paul HINDEMITH, Sonata Nr. 5 for violin and piano by Grazina BAZEVIC; Sonata for violin and piano Nr. 2 by Willem PIJPER (premiere performance in Latvia), and Sonata for violin and piano Nr. 1 by Ernest BLOCH (premiere performance in Latvia).

Hermanis BRAUNS was not only astonishing pianist, he was also an amazing person.
