Taken in context, China's one-child policy is neither good nor bad, to put it simplistically. It was merely a necessary measure undertaken by officials at the time in light of the economic, social, and environmental problems they faced then and still face now and one that has proved to be enormously successful at achieving its goals.

  • i just saw another video, that says because of the one child policy clashing with chinese tradtions of wanting a son, alot of baby girls are being abandoned and left on the streets to die...

  • IM gonna...... Cry.

  • I heard that couples are told that they must have a child; I don't understand why a couple is not allowed to remain childfree

  • @chadpopstar I heard the couples must have a child; I don't understand why family planning and the government say that they must have a child

  • @esmifrado Yes, that is usually what happens (but probably not always). You do hear aboy women that have twins and will abort one or kill him/her at birth. Although I'm sure that gross inacuracies about the policy are spread, I assume that there are many intricacies.

  • what happens to the twins? they kill one of them? i wouldnt be surprised :\

  • ONE CHILD POLICY IS GREAT, AND I DO NOT SEE ANY BETTER POLICY.

  • How about a NO CHILD POLICY for ONE DECADE? This will significantly reduce the population, and women in their 20's can still have children after the decade is over.
