Baritone Robert Merrill starts by singing a magnificent rendition of "Some Enchanted Evening" and then is joined by Anna Moffo for a duet of "Climb Every Mountain." This is followed by the thrilling baritone aria "Avant De Quitter Ces Lieux" from Charles Gounod's "Faust."

  • The title of the French aria is actually "Avant de quitter ces lieux" from Faust by Charles Gounod, but nevertheless a thrilling baritone aria.

  • Thanks, I don't know much about French opera.

  • Extraordinary artists!

  • beautiful voice. sung excellently

  • @halavey

Lawrence Tibbett said the same thing about Merrill's voice.

  • Moffo told me in Chicago that Merrill had the most beautiful baritone voice she ever sang with and she said this after a lecture at the end of her career in Chicago where she took questions.

  • Anyone know when/where is was performed/recorded??

  • First of all, Merrill is a god. Secondly, this aria is NOT sung better by a bass. This is clearly a baritone piece.

  • Sorry, I hadn't got to the Faust yet...his *French* diction is not so great...

  • I don't know why you say his diction sucks - I understood every word.
