Really chilling scene, even for today. I remember seeing it for the first time a couple of years ago when I was quite young, and it still, to me, remains the best adaptation of a Stephen King book next to The Shining.

@chicubbies1 I watched this when I was aged 12 and was scared like shit with this scene.I didn't dare look out my bedroom window for ages.!
What's cheesy about it? Pretty damn scary even by today's CGI standards...

@2010metsfan I'd say the overall movie itself has many cheesy moments. I think this scene is pretty creepy... and I can't agreewith you more about it standing up to the CGI all over the horror genre today. This, in my opinion, is far scarier.
