India is one of the world's few growth countries, with a burgeoning middle class to match. They are keen to get a top-notch education for their children, but with Indian colleges oversubscribed, many are turning to the West as a fallback option.

  • The other reason is that schools in India, from grade school to the undergraduate level, stress rote learning instead of critical reasoning. The emphasis is mainly on problem solving with some prescribed methods and hardly any "out of the box" thinking is encouraged. Consequently, research is not only subpar but even discouraged at certain institutions.

Indians, given their raw talent, will do brilliantly given the proper surroundings; examples of these are Indians living abroad.

  • @tttybhgf1 The reason Indian universities fair poorly on the world stage today is due to a couple of reasons. The primary reason is simply lack of proper funding. The IITs are unanimously considered the top schools in India for the sciences and IIMs for business. The reason they are considered "top" is mainly due to the professors and students; whose caliber are unquestionably brilliant. The problem is the facilities and funding is so abysmal that very little serious research is done.

  • @kmckoy13 Good point really. The number of applicants accepted is apparently very low. But they seem to be very hard to study at. Ivy League schools are far far better in research though, and this really matters.

  • @tttybhgf1 Yes.. you are right.. There is hardly any research conducted in Indian Universities. ;(

  • @tttybhgf1 yep. Although its not due to lack of talent... its due to lack of funding for research

  • No one can deny that Indian universities have excellent and intensive courses. But why don't we see them when it comes to university world rankings ? Is the quality of research not as good as it should be ?

  • How is avoiding competition produce better end product ? Stay here face the competition..Colleges dont matter students do!

  • @JogBird Where did you get that stat ? At your local American library ?

  • @mauriceraffoul You, are stupid. Heard of purchasing power parity ?

  • @abh3092 did you read the book "eden of the east" that i recommended to you?

and like i said before, any of the hindu/buddhist influences in south east asia happened at a later time.

also, do note that humanity is different from civilization. all people might have come from one place, but it doesn't mean the people further away from the "origin of humanity" follows a civilization they migrated from. meaning, sundaland became a civilization first, even when theyre a "newer human species".
