    Oh please don't go!

I've got to get more of your insights down. I teach an Intro-Psych class and I am certainly going to present your opinions when I touch on research methods.

    Please, do continue.

  • @suddenlyitsobvious

Listen, I'm having a very hard time with your opinion that the mind is not a product of the brain.

    That’s a whopper.

How can I discuss a complex topic with someone who wont' even acknowledge one of the most fundamental facts?

What did you think the brain was for? A hat rack?

  • @Waltham1892

'75% of MPD patients also meet the diagnostic criteria for an Axis II, Cluster B, disorder.' And what is this piece of trivia supposed to clarify, except that you've heard of the notions 'diagnostic criteria', 'Axis II' and 'Cluster B'. Sorry, but your posts are too psychotic to allow a meaningful exchange. The End.

  • @Waltham1892

...functions' A completely primitive and mindless statement. Any entity can be willfully divided into its constituent parts, into cells making it up for instance, or structures, or whatever. You've said nothing here. Worse, the actual reasoning leading to the conclusion: 'there can be no such thing as multiple personalities' is so full of holes that it can hardly be addressed. There is simply no causative relation at all between the 2 premises & their conclusion.

  • @suddenlyitsobvious

'Since mind is an emergent property of the brain...You have no basis for this claim."

Take someone's brain out and you find their IQ drops.

I think that is pretty good proof.

OR, do you believe, as did the Egyptians, that the mind resides in the heart?

  • @suddenlyitsobvious

Actually, I have a BA in General Experimental Psychology, a Masters in Developmental Psychology, and a PhD in Clinical/Developmental Psychology.

So, other than receiving services, what is your expertise?

  • @Waltham1892 Ah, some points. Starting with several falsehoods, hmm, what a surprise.

First falsehood, composed of 3 false propositions:

'You have presented nothing and offered no reasoning. You've used a few obsolete terms incorrectly.'

    Next falsehood:

'Since mind is an emergent property of the brain and the brain' Failing to differentiate between ASSUMPTION and fact. You have no basis for this claim.

    Next:

'the brain is a series of simple sub-units performing specialized..

    Never the less, it’s true.

MPD is nothing more than a modern version Hysteria, which was always a label thrown on women.

Just as women were thought to be prone to hysteria because they had weak egos, women were thought to be prone to MPD for the same reasons.

    Aren’t women pathologized enough?

The entire diagnosis of MPD nothing more than the theories of Janet and Charnot dressed up for the 20th century.

  • @Waltham1892 Really, what are you doing on this thread when you haven't got an ounce of psychological insight & an undeveloped perspective based on near-total unfamiliarity with the subject matter combined with scientific illiteracy? Your 'points' are childish, completely substandard academically. Instead of trumpeting the merits of science & trying to bask in its glory while completely misidentifying your interlocutors, perhaps you ought to try making an actual SUBSTANTIVE point? Hmmm?
