Ok thats a good idea with the matt, its more weight then the mylar, but they sell those mylar type sleeping bags cheap, under $4 and its weight is something like an ounce, so its pretty cheap and light.
Either way I suppose, I think the matt would last longer though

Would you think it would be much stronger if you used a 700 count threaded sheet? Walmarts does not go HALF that amount (thats why its cheap). You can get a much stronger sheet that way. Another thing, concerning the misquitos... AFTER its made with a much stronger sheet and netting, would it be worth it to velcrow That it might be removal for washing) the bottom half of the hammock for misquitos? I wouldnt think misquitos would bite through that. Not only that but it would retain warmth as well

I bought a hammock on line paid a lot for it $140.my only dislike is the skeeters can bite through the back side. What they are charging for these is unreal the fabric is minimal. What I was thinking of doing was getting a netting from Cabelas and just using a nylon hammock enclosed by the Cabelas net. We just have too many mosquitos where I live. Need one for my little girl.
how about canvas tarp, or a painters tarp? what do you think?

Ugh.. sorry I didnt tell you WHAT I was considering to velcro (underneath) lol
Mylar
I wonder if theres a way to do that, then you would have strength, netting & mylar for misquitos and warmth

It would definitely would be stronger. If I had a choice I would make it out of nylon fabric, but I have yet to find a local dealer of such things besides online, so I just went to Walmart and grabbed a sheet. I recommend though just getting some fabric from the dollar bin because it is cheaper and you get any length you need. I have learned a very valuable lesson with the mosquitoes, never lay bare chested and always have something under you like a sleeping bag and you should be fine.

Oh and about the warmth, I usually use the blue foam pad you get at Walmart. But this is only for really cold nights. In warmer weather I just use the sleeping bag. I think Mylar might run the bill up a little bit more also. I always think cheap! lol. Isn't Mylar a bit rigid too? Idk if you could pack that up well for backpacking and camping?
