@NilEinne It isnt an expensive mod, I did the whole thing for under $10 NZ. If you include the cost of the train
(which we already had) it is still under $30 NZ

can you do one for me
-
BTW, I haven't actually purchased one and even if I did don't have the money that I'd be willing to try opening it but I wonder if the engine is the same size etc? If so, you may be able to mod a Thomas one to use an engine from a high speed train although if you can't change the switch, you'll only have one speed (obviously wire it so it's the high speed).
U could also try one of those 14500 li-ion batteries then no modding needed but I wouldn't recommend you give it to kids in case it blows.

If you want a high speed train but don't want to burn out the motor, there are a bunch of 2 speed Takara Tomy pla rail trains. They won't be as fast as this but are still fairly fast, there are a bunch of videos on Youtube. There are some that aim to be semi realistic looking like real world bullet trains (primarily Japanese since these are intended for the Japanese market). Also some of the new Hyper guardian line. Unfortunately none from the Thomas range that I'm aware of.

Almost as fast as TomTomica's flying scottsman.

when I was little my pops had an old metal train set, the kind you could put a pellet in so smoke would come out of the smoke stack. Pretty cool.

This one smokes too if you leave it going for more than a few minutes Momo! The boys thought it was great, I just left it there and surprised them
