This drill was recommended by Thorsten Hohmann at the Predator pool school in Jacksonville, Florida, May 21-22, 2008.

I tried it a couple of times at the school, but didn't make it through. This video is the first time I tried it on my table at home.

The rules: Shoot the 8, then the 1, then the 8, then 2, 8, 3, 8, 4, 8, 5, 8, 6, 8. Foul if you bump into a ball. Good drill for getting shape on balls at opposite ends of the table.

This video recorded on location at FastMikie's Fun House, Del Mar, CA.

  • Hey mike how did you hit the 3 ball i cant seem to get the cue ball to move that way after hitting the object ball. i just started playing a few months ago. Thanks

  • @spit19153 For the 3 ball shot, I used high inside (right) english, lots of follow through.

  • When you hit the 3 ball did you use inside English? On my table i tried the shot and my cueball always dies on the first rail. Any advice?

  • Yes, I gave it lots of inside english, and since that will cause the cue ball to die off the foot rail, it's necessary to give the cue ball a strong, confident stroke with lots of follow through. I love this shot.

Thanks for viewing, and for the excellent question. Enjoy!

  • WOW mike.. nice stroke you got there!

  • You are too kind. Thank you. I'm working on it...

  • A way to make it FAR harder--and even more useful practice: Do it all without the cueball hitting any rails.

  • nice control over ur draw

  • this drill is much tougher than it looks. if you get lazy on the two balls closest to the spot the drill is over.

  • Great drill. I can see where it would hone your skills on coming up on the "right side of the ball". I'm gonna go practice it now.

  • cool video - and thanks for the drill idea

  • Nice exercises you have filmed there mikie. I'll add these to my practice routines, especially those Predator school stuff which I think is more "match related" than PAT which is of course a good basic skill workout

  • people tell me that i play slow...but its not true...you play slow:) good for you. good luck:)

  • You really just need half a tip or so of right English on that shot and mostly top. You'll notice he pockets the 3 ball in the right hand side of the pocket mostly due to the deflection the English caused on the cue ball. If he would have hit it with less english and more follow, he would have gotten the same result but with more accuracy - the less english you use when hitting the ball hard the better.
