Song by M.W. Balfe set to a poem by Longfellow. Sung by Russell Malcolm to piano accompaniment. This is an unmistakeably victorian song, but strongly influenced by Italian opera in the bel canto style of Bellini. Sometimes found in collections for Mezzo or Alto, where reference to the boy of the poem brings a different slant to the gender roles of childhood.
The accompaniment to this song is available for download from my website: http://www.singsweetsong.com/page4.htm
