This is a test of the sound quality from the LX3. Taken in 16:9 1280x720 24fps.
Designed to show anyone looking for a digital camera to take clips in clubs with loud music what you can expect.
The bass was turned down for this recording and the volume was also kept quite low with good separation to speakers.
As you can hear from this clip, you can never expect too much from a digial camera video clip sound quality wise even with some of the Sony models with arguably better sound quality you will still have major problems with distortion in loud clubs.
Best option is a Camcorder with mic input to attach a pro mic also with bass roll off.
I wouldn't expect the best in video quality and definitely not in sound quality from a digital camera. This clip is quite heavy with bass even with bass turned down as well as volume turned down. It also sounds a bit tinny which is what you'd expect from a mic on a digital camera, camcorder even audio recoring device like a MiniDisc the built in mic is never that great and you'll get a lot of distortion.
Most Digital Cameras excel in taking photos but are a long way off meeting good standards for sound and video.

Like all Panasonic digital cameras, the microphpne SUXXX!!! And in the description on the Panasonic site it says "True to life sound quality" :)) I doubt that... Video quality is good but contrast sometimes verry high mostly in daylight. An external microphone jack and the camera would be perfect :D

I have a question regarding video capture: Do you know at which f-value it records? Is it a fixed value or variable? And does it film at f-2.0?

I have recorded videos with the LX3 in electronic music events, check my profile. Bottom line: The mic on the LX3 SUCKS, but the video image is great!

Yea the camera outstanding, to film in small rooms and/or to document inside small spaces it outclass my videocamera (panasonic HS00) and the sound is ok for documentation. Its mono but quite good, I recorded some live music and its accepable but if I should use it for soun I use my oter great toy the ZOOM H2 and put the sound from that baby instead..

Nevermind. I found it. Shazam (iPhone application) has finally been put to good use. I just held my iPhone up close to laptop speakers for 20 seconds and boom, a couple of seconds later I received full info about the song. Awesome.

My goodness, the music is A M A Z I N G!!! What is it? I gotta have it.
BTW: Just got my LX3 a couple of weeks ago and I'm lovin' it. Gorgeous camera. Looking forward to editing some HD video on my brand new iMac in the near future.

I got it too, and I haven't really tried the sound to the limit. But the image quality is superb.
