"Many are judged and outcasted for not being one of them. . .why is it that way? Are we meant to be cursed children?" - Serah

[Story:]
In their world, there are being's known as l'cie. They are disliked by those around them. They were always said to be cursed. Since l'cie had something called a "Focus" which was something they had to do in a certain amount of time. No matter what they did it seemed as if they were doomed. If they completed their Focus they would crystalize and be forgotten forever. If they were to fail, they would unleash terrible things upon the world. It wasn't until Cloud befriended a l'cie, that he had learned of this story. Serah and Cloud were always close, but one day, Serah decided to confess that she was a l'cie. She knew Cloud would probably leave her, but shockingly he said he would stay and help her find a way to have a different outcome. Serah was happy, but she was unsure of what was to come.

Meanwhile, Rufus and Sazh are having a conversation of Serah since Rufus was the first to know that she was a l'cie and had been hiding her and making sure no one was to find out. Though Sazh was not pleased and thought it would just be easier to kill her. Though, Rufus said he had started an investigation on her. Since no one really knew anything about l'cie's other than what they heard from the stories. Sazh still wasn't happy, but Rufus told him to relax and that they had everything under control. Little did the two know that Cloud was outside listening to their conversation.

The ending is a preview of what's to come. Cloud is sitting in the Forgotten City as he is thinking over if Rufus is really on their side or not. Suddenly Cloud hears something near him wondering what they want. Kadaj comes out and explains that they cannot hide Serah from them forever, meaning him and his brother's. Cloud didn't know how Kadaj even knew about Serah which brought up more questions. Kadaj then explains how Rufus and the other's are always so good at keeping her hidden, but for what reason? This struck another question for Cloud, but it looks like Kadaj is ready to fight to get what he wants. What do they want with Serah? Does Rufus have something in store for her as well? Just what is going on?
