Jacob Swett, a Senior Physics major and current President of the Missouri State Chapter of the Society of Physics Students received national recognition last year from the American Institutes of Physics.
The Institutes awarded him the Marsh W. White Award. These awards are given to Society of Physics Students to support projects designed to promote interest in physics among students and the general public.
Jacobs project was building a Reubens tube. A Ruebens tube is a physics experiment that shows the relationship between sound waves and air pressure, using sound and fire. The tube has been placed in the Physics department inventory to help with recruiting for the department.
Jacob and two fellow students recently demonstrated the Ruebens tube to more than 200 middle school students and their parents at the Expanding Your Horizons Conference at Missouri State University.
Tonight we are proud to honor Jacob Swett. On the court to congratulate him is Missouri State University Provost Dr. Belinda McCarthy. Ladies and gentlemen, please acknowledge Jacobs accomplishment. He is in the Bancorp South Academic Spotlight.
