I really believe Freddie was gay and not bisexual. Mary was his soulmate, but deep inside he knew that he had always loved men, that's why the relationship ended. Mary said that she noticed that something was wrong in the relationship, and then Freddie confessed it. Maybe he didn't loved her as a woman, but she was the most important person in his life until the end.

His friend says it all in this clip......."for Freddie, Mary always came first" When you write a song called Love of My Life for someone I think it's clear who his great love was, he left her everything & all his recording royalities, she was the only true love he ever had.

Also, during all of Queen's shows, he would often tell the crowd, he still loved us to. If you doubt me watch the full wembly videos from 1986, he says it in both shows, the Friday and Saturday. So, perhaps that I still love you was for Mary, the band, and for us. I still love him to, even with all the garbage people still say about him.

I think we're all speculating. Though I admire Jim Hutton and his devotion to Freddie, did anyone notice that no where in this entire documentary do we hear from the people that were closest to him, other than Jim? None of Queen (including Roger), nor Mary say a thing. That says enough to me. We cannot hear from Freddie himself. Mary stayed by him as did the band when everyone else came and went. I think that "I still love you" was for them. But I'm speculating to! I still luv you Freddie!

These Are The Days Of Our Lives is about Roger, his family and the passing of his own life, and Jim Hutton just had to go and make it into being about Fred and himself. Disgraceful

@ben5leto That's my opinion too.... Every lover wants to believe that might be him he referred too but I believe it was Mary....she also inherited all his money...

I am so ashamed to admit that I gave into my prurient interests, and watched this piece of trash. Talk about throwing Freddie under the bus! He liked his private life kept private. Remember what Paul Prenter did to him? He was furious! BTW, Freddie always ended "Love of my Life" with "I still love you." That was to the audience (fans) and to MARY! Sorry, Jimbo. Stop making yourself more important than you were. (Yes, I know he's dead.) David Wigg? Rot in hell, you bum. Freddie trusted you.

Jim Hutton is such a liar when he says the last "I still love you" by Freddie was for him. Because for one, Freddie didn't even look at Jim, he was looking straight at the camera. And in the song, he is singing about the past. Back in the 70s, Freddie didn't know Jim until the 1980s. But Freddie did meet Mary in 1970. So obviously that last I still love you was for her. Because everything changed but the only thing that didn't was that Freddie still loved Mary.
I see lots of anger towards this doc, yet I, as a Gay man, have seen many flamboyant figures in my life, he had the talent and then the money, to really run full force with his personality. Being a huge Queen fan, I do not think any of this knowledge detracts from his/their greatness. Many stars have led chaotic private lives. If anything this doc has made me see him as more human than any other. I believe if society had been more open he may have actually found the love he sought sooner.

When Freddie said I still love you at the end of These are the days of our lives. i bet he was saying it to Mary Austin.
