Fallujah Good is a 45 minute, one-man play adapted from the
journal of a combat 2nd Lieutenant in the United States Marine
Corps on his first deployment to Iraq. It is a story unlike other
tellings of the Iraq War in that Fallujah Good does not promote
a political agenda or provide body counts. Nor does it provide
a step-by-step account of the platoon's movement or quantity
of RPG fired at them by masked insurgents. Fallujah Good
tells a truth that is vulnerable, terrifying, and rich with emotion
as it was discovered by one platoon commander in a small but
significant Area of Operation in the war on terrorism
Fallujah Good is an adaptation of my brother's combat journal written during the Battle of Fallujah in 2004. It runs between 50 minutes and an hour and can play in large houses or in small classrooms. Fallujah Good is not a protest play. I consider it apolitical because I am not trying to change minds, just tell a story. Written by my brother, Capt. Adam Mathes USMC, Fallujah Good is also the only play I am aware of that provides a first hand, primary source account of the battle.
