to the ppl who say northern soul was NOT 1st founded in england.... go do your homework. its a term for soul (your american soul) played in the north of england. hence the term NORTHERN soul.
Ultimately times change as do musical tastes but one thing that remains the same is relationships
between 2 people, the joys and pains of Love,Break up,Make up-Love Lost is allways going to be with us,and age wont change those feelings. Its these essential qualities that really go in to a class recording! and Northern soulies know which are the REAL ONES!
Empathy wise the North of England like the Detroit of the 60s was the industrial poorer divide in the UK.Most left school and went to the factory, worked long hours for small pay trying to make a living.Detroit soul R&B was something that we could relaste to rather than the pop/rock and roll/country etc that was pushed over the radio.
Weekends was for escaping the grey side and enjoying the music, and boy did we and still do,though now it is spread far and wide.
The same conditions were created then as in the 60s recordings for people with real ears to re-find and give these otherwise lost recordings the recognition they deserve! Northern records tend to be thought of as uptempo dancers from the 60s and while feel good records play a large part at a good venue,UK Soulies appreciate dark and painful Lyrics and vocalists.A sense of been Real matters very much as life itself is Real and much of the time hard and sad.
