@alexxxxxx23 Chaliapin popularized it. Words and music written by Florian Hermann... and before that the poem was written by Ukrainian Yevhen Hrebinka. Russians just adopted it :)

@gammabeam235 Yeah, this is the Russian Red Army Choir recording; from the Naxos CDs. Pretty good album altogether, but at times the singers are really really quiet; so if you're listening to a playlist the next song might be blaring loud if you turn it up to hear them better.

This is the best version of this song in youtube, but the worst immagine inside... anyhow, the song is amazing.

I love this version too. I've been trying to get my music teacher to find the sheet music for it (just the song, not this version in particular) but she lost it a long time ago.
It's fine that you don't like the picture, as it's the song that is the metaphorical steak to the dinner.
