Please refrain from using the old letter font and wrong spelled "pseudogerman" letters. I am happy to assist putting words together in the right order :-) Happy fencing.

  • training is ok but the music is not good ..... greetings from Germany !

  • Those are GEN 1 Hanwei's correct? Gen 2 corrects this issue, there a lot more stable with only the 6 inch tip being whippy.

  • Hello gcoffman06,

The instructors all have Albion Liechtenauers in my group.

We wanted to show controlled freeplay with the federschwerts as they require finesse to use within the system. Start applying more force in the binds and they no longer work.

When we first got the federschwerts, we thought they were too floppy too, until I discovered that most extant Meyer era trainers are even more flexible than these modern "trainers"

Look for more vids from us, but with our Liechtenauers.

  • Those federschwerts seem to have way too much flex to them. Recommending a change in training sword is hard because it is always expensive. But I you might want to try Albions federschwert, the Meyer. Having a tool that accurately simulates a real sword does wonders for technique.

Also, I'd like to see more force used in both the cuts and the binds.

  • Yep, figured that out before my first reply.

Now you know what I do in my spare time when not drinking beer.

    Cheers,

    DT

  • Heh, I certainly didn't mean it as a criticism knowing every video has it's own purpose. I'd just like to see a similar video with a bit more juice and the full kunst de fechtens curriculum at their disposal.

    I'm selfish. :D

BTW IMHO, this is one of the few "freeplay" videos that have clear discernable technique.

    Bravo.

This is Lee from CA btw.

  • I agree.

The two asst. instructors chose not to do any disarms or throws and to stay at range for the photographer by prior agreement (without my knowledge... )

They both have a EMA background (one 10 years the other 25) so they can take a throw just fine. I had to bit my lip during filming as I was in the dark on why they were staying with in measure and not trying any ringen am schwert or disarms.

    Glad you liked it.

    Cheers,

    DT

  • Hi Bradidus,

The longer coat is a Matuls basic aketon, the shorter one was made by a seamstress in our Living History group in the CDB style.

The gauntlets worn by the fighter in the Matuls coat he made himself. The other pair is from the now defunct Knights Armoury (AKA Clay Moore).

    Cheers,

    DT
