Jack and Suzy Welch offer their advice to college graduates. While Suzy Welch acknowledges that many grads may have to settle for less than their dream job, she emphasizes the need to love your work, over-deliver, and "give it everything."

-----

In today's accelerated world, with its competing priorities, information overload and confounding options, we can all use a compass, a guiding strategy to help navigate the parade of life decisions: Should I uproot my family for a higher paying job? Should I settle down and have children, or continue my work hard/play hard life?

As a work-life columnist for O, The Oprah Magazine and as a writer, with her husband and former GE CEO Jack Welch, of "The Welch Way" column in BusinessWeek, Suzy Welch has developed a simple and yet incredibly helpful life-management tool she contends will cut through the noise and provides clarity for answering all of our work and life dilemmas.

John Francis "Jack" Welch, Jr. is the former Chairman and CEO of General Electric between 1981 and 2001. Suzy Welch, formerly Suzy Wetlaufer, is a noted commentator and business journalist. She was editor of the Harvard Business Review, and has written extensively on management and leadership. Her latest book, 10-10-10: A Life-Transforming Idea (Scribner), is a New York Times best-seller that deals with life decision-making strategies.

  • Yeah, all you need to do is believe in yourself, because all good things come to those who wait, and dont be someone your not and dont be a victim and keep your eye on the ball and dont settle for less and be confident and dont be afraid to fail etc etc etc ( add whatever useless cliche you want).

So many peoples philosophies of life are like canned chicken soup. No substance.

  • Yup, I am sure everybody who comments on this video will be CEO of a multinational conglomerate someday. All you have to do is wait long enough, right?

You make a good point. Have you heard how much money Michael Jackson started making AFTER he died? It's ridiculous. Just goes to show...you could create quite a portfolio after your own funeral. As a college graduate this gives me hope...I can start making money when I'm DEAD! Oh, all the fun I can have as a corpse when the fruits of my lifelong labor pay off. It sounds like a bad stand-up act but that shit is true...almost all 3000 students in my graduating class are experiencing it

  • It took me 20 years to get into my dream job. Experience is the key to getting what you want. Network with people and learn from them.

Obnoxious or not, G.E. flourished under him and many CEO's and managers respect his management style and the advice that he has to give them (which according to you means NOTHING).

  • follow your passion, dont follow dollars alone

  • Universal, timeless advice :)

  • Welch looks old here, did the man have a heart attack?

  • an "ambitious slut" the fair maiden may be but I would still "hit it "for all its worh.

Furthermore, Nee, who does not love an ambitious slut?

  • as CEO of GE? Are you kidding? GE is one of the biggest war-profiteering corporations on the planet.
