Well, YouTube just told me that my account is now enabled for longer videos, thanks to all my viewers who apparently helped me getting there!
So while I am once more in a mood to put more stuff on Youtube, I would like to introduce my second-favorite Genesis tune to you, Driving The Last Spike.

Album: We Can't Dance (1991)
Topic: Building of the British railways as seen through the eyes of a worker
Performance: Knebworth 1992, final show of the We Can't Dance tour and thus last official album tour concert with Phil Collins.
Band Members (for those who have no idea who Genesis are, they are not Phil Collins' backing band and I tend to delete comments indicating this!):
Tony Banks - Keyboards, Backing-Vocals
Mike Rutherford - Bass/Lead Guitar, Backing-Vocals
Phil Collins - Lead Vocals, Drums
Daryl Stuermer - Bass/Lead Guitar, Backing-Vocals
Chester Thompson - Drums, Percussions

  • I know this song was about the construction of the British railroads in the 1800s, but I can't help but think some of themes in the lyrics apply to the events of September 11th. Maybe it's because I'm American and have trouble relating to British history, but that's literally what I think of whenever I listen to this song.

  • @66hourenergy The images of stones falling like rain would fit the theme, taking the family-leaving parts in consideration you might think of the involved police and firefighters. I never looked at the song this way but you got a point.

  • I don't get it why so many complain about we can't dance album.

  • @TheBenoslaw1234 My experience is that it's not so much the We Can't Dance album but rather Invisible Touch. We Can't Dance also satisfied older fans because of pieces like Driving The Last Spike, No Son Of Mine and Fading Lights, where IT only had Domino and The Brazilian for this. Land Of Confusion is sort of a compromise because of the video.

  • @saffi01 in opinion of most Polish reviewers We Can't Dance is criticized as one of the worst album. Anyway, for me IT is great. I understand your point that "there is only Domino and The Brazilian but 3xTonight is also great in its dark, mysterious atmosphere Moreover the rest of the songs has fantastic melodies. They're hits. Mayhaps just hits but all in all it satisfies me.

  • @TheBenoslaw1234 This is not reflecting my opinion as I like both albums equally, what I stated there were postings of a few users in the German Genesis fanclub. We Can't Dance to me is one of their best, the only Genesis album I ever disliked was Calling All Stations.

  • Eu estive neste brilhante dia , inesquecível Concerto, nunca deixarei de lembrar. Meu pai ainda vivia nesta época e dedico este momento a ele. Viva o Genesis.

  • This is it! First aired in Finland on the New Year's Eve 1992-93, this was the first Genesis concert I saw, and still the best one! I wish they'd released this concert on DVD instead of the arena gig from the same tour.

  • interesting. i didn't expect them to transpose down mid-song

  • @66hourenergy I think that's a great way of interpreting it- I think the song is for all people who have the courage to unselfishly put themselves in danger.

  • We'll never see the likes of Genesis again either. Truly fabulous.

  • YES driving the last spike is the better Genesis's song, with dreaming while you sleep and Jesus he knows me.

  • this is one of my fav song by genesis

  • genesis's best song.
