From their self titled debut album (released 1967), this song was banned on the radio when the BBC learned the slang's meaning.

  • What did the slang mean?

    Jim

  • Mary Jane was/is a common term for marijuana. Safe to say they weren't quite refering to a girl here.

  • @SingingVegetable Yet, The Small Faces, somehow, managed to get 'Here comes the nice' onto the airwaves.

  • @Khultan I thought that song was referring to the band 'The Nice,' or am I mistaken?

  • @SingingVegetable Which band are you referring to?

  • @Khultan The band is called The Nice and I'd thought I'd read somewhere that The Small Faces were big fans and did that song as a sort of homage to them. I might be wrong about that -- questioning it now at any rate.

But yeah, it did blatantly mention speed, so its amazing it wasn't censored because of that.

  • @SingingVegetable No, it is NOT from the band, The Nice. No. Please, search, Lord Buckley-The Nazz, and this is from whom TSF were directly inspired from, then you'll understand. It's so nice.

  • @SingingVegetable The Small Faces's is a pro-drug song and a defiant response by Steve and Ronnie after the banning of their last single.

  • Would you put "Now She's Gone" up for me?

  • mmmm love it. :3
