fair enough not wanting it to sound like the original but only attempt that if you're going to make it better and the guitar sounds off and due to the strumming pattern being identical to the original it sounds bad because you're playing the wrong thing. If you were going to change it you should have played chords in a much simpler fashion to match the vocal line :)
Still, the singing is really nice and you have a great voice, I just really think the guitar work let's the track down.
