A semi truck loses its brakes on a winding mountain road. This segment was taken from Episode 220 which aired on February 26, 1991 on CBS. This particular version of the segment was taken from a 30-minute syndicated episode, so small parts of it may have been cut out to make room for commercials.

  • I have to say that out of all the segments I've uploaded, this one takes the cake for most comment arguments.

  • Take the cake? What does that mean?

  • @ZMommaL56 That means it surpasses all others.

  • Great story but, um, nothing to do with 911. I guess it was a dry time for professional rescues at the time they made this episode. That and, well, it really is a neat story.

  • @leananshae The show was mainly about rescues (both by professional rescuers and civilian heroes), despite the title. Even in the early episodes, not every story featured a 911 call.

  • Um, I am not a driver, but could you not put the semi in reverse and put the pedal to the medal? Would that work?

  • @battlekid786 I don't know anything about semi trucks, but at that speed, I'm thinking it would either break the transmission, or you wouldn't be able to shift gears in the first place.

  • omg I luv this show used to watch it all the time I was about 8 years old thanks youtube

  • would hyave been nice if they mentioned what was wrong with the brakes!

  • yaa it does not look any thing like it to i live about 50 min away in cape breton thats kellys mountin n i drive trucks its a 725 feet to top in about 4km a part of the world famous cabot trail. . it was prob the big stop in aulds cove in up the 125 i bet . found this video by a fluke haa.

  • and if buy some mircle they happened to get it in that gear and the driveline did not break most likely the clutch would spin apart from excess RPMS. but speaking from experience you would never get it into that gear.

  • Can you imagine the fear and frstration they must have had if they made one small mistake. This is what I call the true meaning of friendship.

  • i ,m just curios what caused the brakes to fail probaly they were out of ajustment that happend to me one time brakes needed to be ajusted i almost lost it that was so stupid thats the way it was back then they didnt inforce the laws back then compard to today

  • Hmm one would think the company would take better care of the truck breaks......I know some truckers at work and I will ask them about how can they tell if the breaks go out/ what will they do if the breaks go out!

  • Wooo,,, William Shatner? exelen en su epoca de presentador...

  • He should have hit the Jake Brakes on the way down the grade that would have slowed him down

  • @aburocko i totally agree
