@renehofhuis much truth in what you say, however i'd make the claim that to sound truly great with distortion is perhaps even more impressive, since, as you say, "every guitarist can hide behind distortion" and sound good. though i think somebody who can really channel the power with vibrato and control, someone like gary moore, etc, are no less a great musician than any other guitarist out there.

This is an example of amazing guitar playing at it's best, I play standard bluesy tunes and this has extremely strong blues roots but the way tommy plays it you can't reakky classify this as anything but awesome. Great vid thanks.

Of course Craig's not that great, but he's just jamming in E, having fun, playing along... it shows why we needed grunge at that time, though.
every guitarist can hide behind a lot of distortion, the truly great ones are still great with a clean sound ... and two or three of that bunch stand tall on a acoustic...
