"nobody expects rain on their wedding day" isn't why it's ironic. rain interferes w/ plans & is generally unwelcome on most days, particularly special events (e.g. "rain on your parade.") the weight & cultural significance associated w/ weddings, i.e. for everything to be perfect on her special day, leads one to believe that rain's a bad thing on that day. ("the cake- her hair & dress- kids are muddy!") BUT, rain is a good omen on wedding day. therein lies the irony.

Correction -- there is one, and only one, thing on a ship called a rope by sailors -- the bell rope, which is used to ring the ship's bell.

I wish I'd known about her when I was teaching. It would have been much easier to get the boys to pay attention to vocabulary lessons.

Marina, I love the way you say the words horizonal and sheets. If I had a PERFECT dream, you would be the star character :)

I think a sheet to the wind or 3 is when you are having a sheet on board a ship and there is no toilet paper to wipe your ass, that is what you call ironic.
