The Truth About Jeremy (Pearl Jam)

The song takes its main inspiration from a newspaper article about a 15-year-old boy named Jeremy Wade Delle, born February 10, 1975, from Richardson, Texas who shot himself in front of his English class in Richardson High School on the morning of January 8, 1991 at about 9:45 am. Delle was described by schoolmates as "real quiet" and known for "acting sad." After coming in late to class that morning, Delle was told to get an admittance slip from the school office. He left the classroom, and returned with a .357 Magnum revolver. Delle walked to the front of the classroom, announced "Miss, I got what I really went for", put the barrel of the firearm in his mouth, and pulled the trigger before his teacher or classmates could react. A girl named Lisa Moore knew Jeremy from the in-school suspension program. "He and I would pass notes back and forth and he would talk about life and stuff," she said. "He signed all of his notes, 'Write back.' But on Monday he wrote, 'Later days.' I didn't know what to make of it. But I never thought this would happen."

In my opinion I don't think it is right for television video or audio distribution companies to edit or politically correct any original work of art such as music for example as this by censoring words to a song or the images in a video. Therefore by doing this it will later "ruin" if you will, what is original art because of the alternative versions.

My English teacher was really the one that Jeremy threw the ball to before he killed himself. He was bullied for years and decided he had enough. When his assignment was due that day, he stood up in front of the class and killed himself. RIP Jeremy

@MaChKuLjA Not everyone is you. And those who commit suicide aren't attention-seekers. Seeking attention kind of requires being alive to get the attention. Putting a gun to your head and saying you'll pull the trigger (my dad pulled this bullshit all the time until he finally actually did it) is fucking stupid, and attention-seeking. Walking into a classroom and showing the asshole kids what bullying isn't an attention-seeking maneuver.

@shanelly94ant Imho that represents the repression he came through and via this visual context it tries to explain why he did what he did....look on the student's behavior and song text and you can actually see direct relation of their behavior to nazi....or correct me if I'm wrong...:)

@MaChKuLjA Wouldn't you have to be Mentally Ill, to kill yourself in the first place!?!? Usual mental illness is just a genetic vunerability to problems, stress, probably, societal, is what does the most damage. Who knows, if someone might, given a shit about, Jeremy to help him, he'd probably still be here. The kids said he always seemed sad, why did the teachers not intervene!?!? Probably favoring ass kissing student, like at most schools. And I know personally, I'm talking about.
